I was born in 1983 in Alexandria, Virginia, to Taiwanese immigrants. I grew up in Central Florida. I have a B.A. in journalism from New York University. I've taught in Sarah Lawrence College's MFA program and am the author of ten books, including four novels. My writing has been published by New York Times Book Review, Granta, Paris Review Daily, NOON, and elsewhere. I live in Hawaii, edit Muumuu House, am on Twitter and Instagram, and write on Substack.
I'm working on an essay collection titled Reasons to Live and a nonfiction book titled Self Heal: How I Cured My Autism, Autoimmunity, Eczema, Depression, and Other Health Problems Naturally. I'm represented by Julie Flanagan at CAA.
